Frequently Asked Questions

  • A home EV charger installation in South Wales typically costs £900–£1,300 including a smart 7kW charger and standard installation. Costs vary depending on the charger model, cable run length, and whether any electrical upgrades are needed. If you qualify for the OZEV grant (up to £350 off for eligible renters and flat owners), this reduces the cost further. Homeowners in owned houses are no longer eligible for the OZEV home grant, but the Workplace Charging Scheme is available for businesses. We'll confirm exactly what's involved during a survey visit.

  • For the vast majority of homes, a 7kW charger is the right choice. It charges most electric vehicles from empty to full overnight. A typical EV adds around 30–40 miles of range per hour at 7kW.

A 22kW charger requires a three-phase electricity supply, which most UK homes don't have. Unless you have three-phase power already installed, or a specific reason to need very fast home charging, a 7kW smart charger is the practical and cost-effective option. We'll check your supply during the survey and confirm what's suitable.

  • We can fit practically any charger and we are accredited installers for several leading brands including Simpson & Partners, Tesla, Ohme, EO, and SigEnergy.

We know that different chargers suit different needs. For example, Ohme integrates directly with smart energy tariffs to automatically charge at the cheapest times, while Tesla wall connectors are optimised for Tesla vehicles but work with all EVs.

We'll recommend the right charger for your vehicle, your tariff, and your setup.

  • Yes - this is one of the most cost-effective setups available. When your EV charger is integrated with your solar and battery system, you can charge your car directly from solar energy generated during the day, rather than drawing from the grid.

The SigEnergy SigenStor takes this further with an integrated DC charging module capable of up to 25kW charging speed - significantly faster than a standard 7kW AC charger - when solar and battery power is available.

We can design a fully integrated solar, battery, and EV charging system as a single installation.

  • Yes. The Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) provides businesses, charities, and public sector organisations with a grant covering up to 75% of the cost of purchasing and installing EV charge points, up to a maximum of £350 per socket and 40 sockets per applicant.

Tewdric Energy is an OZEV-approved installer, which is required to access the scheme.

We handle the application process as part of the installation. See our [Businesses funding page] for more detail.

  • Yes. We install smart EV charging solutions for businesses, including staff-only charging and public-access networks.

For businesses, we can design setups that generate revenue through pay-as-you-go charging, integrate with demand management to avoid peak grid charges, and work alongside solar and battery systems to keep operating costs low.

Speak to our business team to discuss your specific requirements.

  • In most cases, no. Home EV charger installations in Wales fall under permitted development rights. Exceptions can apply to listed buildings or some conservation area properties. we check this as part of the survey process.

  • Most home EV charger installations take between two and four hours.

Our OZEV-approved team will fit the charger, run any required cabling, and make sure everything is tested and working before they leave.

If additional electrical work is needed, for example, a consumer unit upgrade, this may take longer and we'll advise you upfront.

  • Yes. The team at Tewdric Energy takes responsibility to notify the Distribution Network Operator for you so you can just enjoy your home charging.
