I’m buying a house with FIT scheme solar panels installed. What questions should I ask?

If you are buying a property with solar panels then this could be good news. However, if you have not installed solar panels before then you may not be aware of what it entails and what information you require, and that can be daunting. Here are some useful questions to ask the property’s vendor:

Starter questions: These questions will help determine the age and quality of the system

1.       When was it installed?

2.       Who was the original installer?

3.       Is any of the equipment under warranty?

4.       When was the system electrically checked last?

Consumption questions: These questions tell you how much you will generate in energy and money

5.       How much energy is it generated per year?

6.       Who is the current FIT tariff with?

Compliance questions: There should be a handover pack from when it was installed, which has to be supplied. This should contain a lot of the information below:

7.       Do they have the MCS certificate?

8.       Do they have the connection approval from DNO/National Grid?

9.       Have they got an electrical certificate for the installation?

You may find that the energy produce isn’t enough for your needs. In which case you still have several options which an energy management company like Tewdric Energy can help you with. Get in touch if you would like some free of charge advice.
