What’s the best EV Charger?

Comparing Electric Vehicle Chargers for your home in 2024

If you are considering an electric vehicle then you will also be thinking about how you will charge it. There is a plethora of EV chargers on the market but which one is best for you? We’re installing them on a daily basis so we’ve tried out quite a few! Here’s our short guide to help you.

·       Andersen EV offers premium, British made chargers that comes in a wide range of colours and high quality finishes - you can let it blend into your property, or a be strong contrasting feature. Recently Andersen has added a monthly leasing payment option so making quality very affordable. It also has a good app that integrates well with solar panel and battery storage solutions from well recognised suppliers.

·       PodPoint seems to be the car manufacturers’ freebie of choice so they are becoming popular and can seem like a good deal. However they are not always compatible with PV solar set up due to lack of integration with smart apps. Whether you have solar panels at the moment or may consider it in the future, you may not see the biggest efficiencies in the long term if you can’t charge your car at the optimal time (for example overnight at a cheaper tariff or, in the summer, when you are producing excess energy and batteries are at capacity).

·       Ohme chargers are becoming a popular choice because they are approved by Octopus Energy and so they work well with the Octopus app for smart features, whether you have solar power to your home or just want to optimise your tariff with Octopus. It comes at not a bad price point either so makes it an attractive option.

·       EO Mini Pro offers a small and neat solution to draw little attention to itself on the side of a property. We really rate the Smart tech that is built into the device and accompanying app for anyone becoming a Smart Energy Consumer.

·       GivEnergy offer EV chargers that work well with the rest of their smart renewables systems such as solar panels and battery storage. However, it’s not so smart if you are thinking of using other solar panel manufacturers so really is designed for the full GivEnergy package for the home.

·       QubEV – This is a cheaper solution that comes with smart app. It’s compatible with most EVs so a nice entry level solution that comes from Rolec that make many of the larger super chargers.

·       Zappi is worth a mention but not one of our favourites. It’s not as neat as other products out there and doesn’t have the features that isn’t offered by many others for the money
